The emerald heart of Southeast Asia. This hidden gem has all of the right ingredients for adventure: lush jungles, spiky karst mountains, welcoming locals and an off-the-beaten track vibe. Plus, great options for relaxing on the river after a day’s exploring!
I first visited this country briefly in 2013, when Kent and I were on our extended honeymoon/Asia-Africa adventure. We stopped to take it easy in Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands) en route from Cambodia to Thailand. It was literally the most relaxing thing I’ve ever done.
But the next visit was something totally different: a race, of course! When I heard there was a race in Luang Prabang – a place that I’d been longing to visit since our first trip – we had to go! Laos is truly a lovely destination.
