This country holds a really special place in my heart. Japan was my first independent trip abroad. And in Japan, Kent and I fell in love.
Our 2011 trip was complete magic: walking in giant bamboo groves at Arashiyama, climbing Mt. Fuji at sunrise and biking from temple-to-temple in Kyoto. It was a honeymoon, it was life-altering and it was so, so fun!
After such a spectacular first-impression, is it strange that it took us eight and a half years to go back? Maybe, but we wanted to return right. Our first trip was perfect. So we waited for the perfect opportunity for our second visit.
Izu Trail Journey presented us with that opportunity in December 2019. This epic race closed a great year of racing, and started a fantastic second trip that took us to places familiar and new!
Japan is a must-visit destination. It’s lovely in a way that can’t be captured in words. It’s fun and quirky beyond your wildest dreams. Japan is one of the most exciting, exotic and all-around excellent places on Earth.
