The land down under was another of my dream destinations. A tabletop book featuring the landscapes of Australia had me intrigued from a very young age. The country’s very name seemed a byword for adventure. It might have taken me a lifetime to get there, but get there I eventually did. And I was amazed by Australia!
We went for a race: the Gold Coast Ultra. But that was merely an excuse to get there, and only the very beginning of our adventures! A rented campervan took us up the Queensland coast in a flurry of picnics, picturesque fun runs and countless roadside attractions. Two weeks and 2000+ kilometers later, we never wanted to leave!
As for the highlights: snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef was the dream of a lifetime made real. Equally memorable on land was the Daintree Rainforest, which absolutely blew me away with its myriad wonders. We also ticked Mt Larcom off the bucket list. And all of that in one little corner of the country!
Obviously, we need to return. Tasmania beckons, as do Uluru and the wild Western Australia. We’ve got friends in Sydney, and an interest in meeting Mt Kosciuszko.
