More green turtles: Photos
A female green turtle prepares a nest in the sands of her native Selingan Island.
A close-up reveals an inward-focused gaze, as well as the beautiful patterns of her shell and skin!
A flashlight illuminates some of her recently deposited eggs, as well as giving a glow to her shell.
An assistant aims the light while a researcher takes the opportunity to conduct measurements of the laying turtle.
After laying, this turtle’s clutch was removed from the nest on the beach to protect the next generation from predation.
The eggs were immediately reburied in fenced and dated enclosures inland at the research station.
These young green turtle hatchlings are ready to begin a short dash into the sea! Next will be a long life in pelagic waters before returning to this beach when they reach maturity.
Nesting turtles leave unmistakable flipper-and-tail tracks all along the beach. Kent investigates.
Spot the tiny turtle rushing for the sea!
Moments earlier: a redirection for her. A lifetime highlight for me. <3
